Securing business financing for a privately owned “middle market” company is a challenging task. The number and type of institutional financing sources has grown exponentially, each with their own unique investment criteria:
- Commercial banks
- Commercial finance companies - also referred to as asset based lenders
- Corporate investors
- Factors
- Insurance companies
- Leasing companies
- Mezzanine investment firms - also referred to as subordinated debt lenders
- Private equity firms
- Savings Banks
- Small Business Investment Companies
- Venture capital firms
There are now more than a thousand private equity and mezzanine investment funds. The sheer number and variety of these funds has led to a plethora of investment criteria and made the process ever more complex. Our firm is constantly in contact with the key decision makers at institutional investors to discern the latest trends and developments.
Substantially all financing for our clients is obtained from commercial banks, commercial finance companies, mezzanine investment firms, private equity firms and Small Business Investment Companies.
To be successful a company must have a clear and compelling story. As part of the process of obtaining financing, our firm will review a client’s historical financial information, assess the validity of their projected financial statements and evaluate their business plan.
Upon completion of the process, our firm will then determine from its proprietary database the institutional investors and/or lenders most likely to provide the financing, contact each financing source and assist with the negotiations. Upon acceptance of a formal financing proposal, our firm will work closely with the client's attorneys and accountants to complete the negotiation of the final financing agreement and consummate the transaction.
