My wife, friends and I love nothing better than to seek out “hole in the wall” restaurants that can have food and service exceeding the famous white-linen tablecloth places. One of our favorites is the Sardine Can – a hidden gem off the beaten path where I have held numerous business meetings over the years.
Located overlooking a marina in the Vallejo Harbor near Mare Island their forte is really fresh seafood that is extremely well prepared. Personal favorites are calamari, cioppino, fish & chips, scallops, dungeness crab louie and clam chowder, all of which are all first rate. The wine list is minuscule and leaves much to be desired so plan on bringing your own – there is a small corkage charge.
The restaurant is located at 0 Harbor Way in Vallejo and is open seven days a week from 8:00 AM until 9: 00 PM. Each Sunday afternoon a different jazz group plays from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM – call 707.557.5766 for details.
